Did you know?
- Libraries are charged more for e-books and e-audiobooks than you are. They are also charged more than they would be for a print copy. In fact, an e-book can cost libraries four times as much as a print copy of the same title: a new book might cost the library $25 in print, but $99 as an e-book.
- Libraries are also subject to licensing terms that mean that they can only keep each copy for a set time period or number of checkouts, which means that libraries must continuously buy new copies to keep the title available.
What does this mean for you?
- We’re doing our best to keep up with the rising demand for e-books and e-audiobooks, but it can be a struggle. You may see increased wait times as a result.
What can you do to help?
- Borrow only what you have time to read.
- Suspend your hold if you don’t have time to read it right now.
- If you’re not ready to read something just yet, use the “save” option in Libby to add books to your wish list instead of placing a hold.
- Return books as soon as you’re finished with them.
- Be patient. We love the fact that so many patrons are embracing our digital collections and that we’re able to give you easier access to books and audiobooks. We’re doing our best to meet the needs of our community-it might just take some time.
